Happy Friday Night Worms! You know it’s classic horror month here at Night Worms, so I wanted to do something a little different today! If you’re anything like me, you’re probably the only reader in your family. Since my family is all in isolation right now, they keep asking me what horror books they should read while they’re bored in the house. So I decided to make this little list of books you or your family might like if they like any of these (what I consider to be) classic horror movies.

1. If you liked...
AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON
You might like...
MONGRELS by Stephen Graham Jones

MONGRELS is a werewolf tale, the same as AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. While MONGRELS isn’t a horror-comedy, it does appeal to a similar audience since it is a coming of age.

2. If you liked... HALLOWEEN
You might like...
UNDER THE BLADE by Matt Serafini

UNDER THE BLADE is a classic slasher, just like HALLOWEEN. However, UNDER THE BLADE, puts a really unique and cool twist on the classic slasher, and that sets it apart from things like HALLOWEEN. Serafini knows how to write cool characters and how to give you strong horror cinema vibes.

3. If you liked...
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
You might like...
WHERE THE DEAD GO TO DIE by Aaron Dries

I love stuff about zombies. A lot. WHERE THE DEAD GO TO DIE is a fresh take on the zombie sub-genre and has a really strong female protagonist. It’s unique and definitely worth a read.

4. If you liked...
ANACONDA
You might like...
THE FORGOTTEN ISLAND by David Sodergren.

Okay listen, I know that the acting in ANACONDA is not great. But you have to admit that it is a cult classic with some really scary elements of horror when you break it down. THE FORGOTTEN ISLAND has some similar classic horror elements: Isolation, something big and scary in the forest and gore. I’m sure if THE FORGOTTEN ISLAND were made into a film, it would be much better than ANACONDA though.

5. If you liked...
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS
You might like...
THE BEAUTY

These two pieces are really different. But when I was making this list, this book and filmed just SCREAMED to be put together. While INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS was an alien invasion film, THE BEAUTY is a book about foreign beings brought into an all-male world. The sense of the outsiders taking over is really strong in both book and film. They both have really beautiful and gross plant descriptions and visuals in common too.

There it is, y’all. I hope this list has helped you or a family member pick up a new horror book. Have a great weekend, Worms! ~Kallie @pageandparlor
