Happy Friday Night Worms! Today I wanted to shout out something near to my heart: GROSS SEA CREATURES.
I have some kind of weird love for those terrifying deep sea animals that look like actual monsters. I’m talking about things like the angler fish, the giant isopod, the viperfish, the goblin shark, the frilled shark, the sea spider, the gulper eel, or the monkfish. If creepy animals that look like actual nightmares scare you, I do not recommend googling those. So with that, I love reading horror centered around the sea. Lords of the Deep by Tim Meyer and Patrick Lacey is a great book if you like sea monsters and ghost pirates. Earthworm Gods by Brian Keene is great for giant sea monsters, sirens, and giant worms. And we can’t talk about oceanic horror without giving a shout out to Jaws by Peter Benchley.
My husband and I love to visit the coast of Maine in the fall and with fall basically here, I keep thinking about the rocky coastline that we visit. I always think that there is something big and mean and scary under the water when I’m there and that’s where my mind has been wandering to lately. One of the Night Worms review team members, Matt, wrote an article with even more sea creature book recommendations here
If your mind has been wandering to the ocean like mine has lately, maybe reading some scary oceanic horror will bring you back to reality! Have a safe weekend, Worms! ~Kallie @pageandparlor
