Book Review: CREATURES OF WANT & RUIN by Molly Tanzer

This is my very first reading experience with Molly Tanzer. Ashley and I picked this book out as a read along for our curated horror book club, Night Worms. It came highly recommended to us by some authors who write urban/dark fantasy/horror: Alan Baxter, Chuck Wendig, and Seanan McGuire. New Year, New Fear!

After finishing this book last night, I would conclude that it's horror-adjacent. I don't want to create any false hope or expectations. It straddles a few different genres, mainly dark fantasy, historical fiction, and maybe a touch of...

Turning to Television While Sheltering at Home by Mindi Snyder

Turning to Television While Sheltering at Home by Mindi Snyder

I don’t think I need to mention that the past month has been really hard on all of us. We are dealing with some scary times, and when the news is consistently so depressing I, like many of you, turn to horror as an escape. Unfortunately, I’m finding that while I’m still enjoying reading horror, I’m having a bit of a hard time concentrating on books on the way I did before I started sheltering at home. Recently I’ve found myself watching a lot more television, and once again I’m finding that horror TV is a great distraction. Here...

BOOK REVIEW: Side by Side Reviews of TRUE CRIME by Samantha Kolesnik

BOOK REVIEW: Side by Side Reviews of TRUE CRIME by Samantha Kolesnik

"I seriously can't recommend this novella enough. Horror fans need this. It's a brutal and unflinching story about psychotic siblings that will leave you gasping for air and wanting to look away. But you won't look away because you can't. This book demands your attention in a way that the best books do." @gowsy33

"Samantha Kolesnik's debut hurts like unrelenting thumb pressure on a fresh bruise. An ugly, dark account of severe victimhood informing a young girl's lasting identity. Readers will endure...

BOOK REVIEW: Mindi's Thoughts on THE TERRIBLE THING THAT HAPPENS by Carlton Mellick

I swear I haven't read a Mellick book that I haven't loved. He's just so good at taking absolutely absurd ideas and situations and making them so entertaining. This is another one that I read in a single sitting, and I think that's also part of the appeal. His books are like a delicious meal that can be savored and finished in a short space of time. You know that the entrée is going to be something odd that you've never had before, but by the end, you will definitely want to try more of...

Mindi Joins the Murderinos and Possibly More Podcast Cults!

Stay Sexy & Don't Get Murdered "My Favorite Murder" hosts Karen Kilgariff & Georgina Hardstark

I have to have been the biggest podcast holdout in America. Every person I know either loves 15 different podcasts or has their own podcast. Podcasts are everywhere, and I fought tooth and nail to avoid them. I'm just not someone who is easily able to concentrate on a person speaking for an hour. Eventually, I gave in and tried so hard for my friends to...
