BOOK OF THE WEEK
Hey kittens! Happy Hump Day! Hope you all are having a great week. I’ve been saturated with migraines the past couple of weeks, but fear not, I got my headache shots Friday. Yay me! Anyway, I decided to pick a throwback to one of the most interesting authors I’ve ever read, Mr. Chuck Palahniuk.
Thus far, I have read Rant, Fight Club, Haunted, Invisible Monsters, Lullaby, Choke, Snuff, The Invention of Sound, and Adjustment Day. If there is one I haven’t read that I absolutely NEED to, then drop the title in the comments.
Today is Haunted day. Palahniuk writes in a no-holds-barred kind of way. And, as far as this is concerned, Haunted is exceptional. Haunted is a short story collection, where I will admit, some stories are better than others, that will stay under your skin. Palahniuk’s writing is a visceral experience that I’m not sure some readers would like. He’s unapologetic in disgusting, dark humor, and inappropriate characters. In Haunted, I laughed, I gasped, and almost vomited in my mouth. I enjoyed every cringeworthy minute of it.
If you have a weak stomach or get easily offended, I would not read Haunted. If you still want to read a Palahniuk book, may I suggest Fight Club, Rant, Choke, or Lullaby. But Haunted is in my top three when it comes to Palahniuk. There is no one else like him.
