Horror Comedy by Tali Leonard @escapereality4now

Can Horror be funny?

We just ended the most catastrophic year and the new year has seemed to start with a real bang, no pun intended. My reading has flip flopped a lot this year. There are times I want a feelgood book and other times I want something grisly and gory. Some of the best books to lighten the mood are funny horror books
Horror and comedy are such separate genres. When we think of horror, we think of horrific scares. Comedy makes us laugh. Horror-comedy is a fun sub-genre of horror that can make you laugh one minute and shriek the next. Whether it be black comedy, a spoof, satire or a parody, these books can be loads of fun. Some of these books subtly spoof horror cliches. For example, ghost being afraid of the people, instead of the traditional scenario...like Beetlejuice. These books can make you laugh one second and scream another and take you back to laughing. The stories are not always in equal doses. Some books lean more to the funny side than others but they will all make you smile and feel good. Comedy is really subjective. What makes one person laugh might not do it for someone else. Here are some feel good horror books. Some of these I have read and others are on my “To Be Read” list.
GIL'S ALL FRIGHT DINER by A. Lee Martinez
HELL FOR THE HOLIDAYS by D. M. Guay
HORRORSTOR by Grady Hendrix
A DIRTY JOB by Christopher Moore
SECONDHAND SOULS by Christopher Moore
HOW TO SURVIVE A HORROR MOVIE by Seth Grahame-Smith
