John's Review: INTO THE MIST by Lee Murray

John's Review: INTO THE MIST by Lee Murray

A few years ago I had read a military fantasy series by Myke Cole called Shadow Ops. More recently I’ve been wondering why can’t I find a good military/horror crossover. That’s not to say there isn’t anything of the sort, I just hadn’t found it yet. I came across Into the Mist, by Lee Murray and I’m pleased to say that if this book is indicative of the rest of the series, I’ve found what I’m looking for.

Sergeant Taine Mckenna, a member of the New Zealand Defence Force and his squad...

John's Review of VIDEO NIGHT by Adam Cesare

Video Night is a book that I’ve seen often on social media lately. Between photos of it at Scares That Care and fellow NightWorms talking about it, I did some further investigation. No sooner than I read the back cover description “John Hughes meets John Carpenter”, did I immediately purchase this book. I wasn’t disappointed.

Video Night is the story of high school best friends Billy and Tom. Despite being polar opposites, they’ve maintained a close friendship, one that is likely to end at the end of senior year. The boys come up with the idea...

A Side By Side Review of ONE BY ONE by D. W. Gillespie

A Side By Side Review of ONE BY ONE by D. W. Gillespie

John's Review:

D.W. Gillespie has surprised the hell out of me with his latest novel, One by One. It’s a wonderfully written horror that takes a simple idea and manages to make it both terrifying and surprising.

The story starts out simple enough. Down on their luck, the Easton family sells their home in order to begin again in a fixer-upper against the wishes of essentially everyone BUT dad. They move in, and despite dad’s best efforts, the house just feels off to everyone else. Even our protagonist, 10 year old Alice, who’s...

John's Review of WHISPERS IN THE DARK by Laurel Hightower

John's Review of WHISPERS IN THE DARK by Laurel Hightower

Whispers in the Dark by Laurel Hightower found it’s way to my TBR the same way many books have lately, discovery through Bookstagram or Twitter. An interesting synopsis, excellent word of mouth and a beautiful cover made this book shoot up my TBR pile faster than most do. I started the book and fell in love with it almost instantly. This is a book that I own a physical copy and a kindle copy of. I took both copies with me wherever I went to make sure whatever scenario I was in, I’d be able to read...

John's Review- Dead Sea by Brian Keene

John's Review- Dead Sea by Brian Keene

Let me start this review off with something I’m embarrassed to admit. It’s 2019 and I’ve JUST read my first Brian Keene novel. He’d Been on my TBR for some time, I just didn’t know where to start. I received quite a few recommendations of Ghoul, however, I already knew I’d love it so I decided to go for one Mr. Keene himself recommended to me on Twitter. Dead Sea.
Dead Sea follows Lamar Reed as he attempts to survive hell on earth, this particular hell...
