In terms of horror movies, most of my life has focused on the slasher genre. I can’t explain it, but I am deeply drawn to any and all slasher movies. It might go back to when I was 4 years old and have a memory of watching A Nightmare on Elm Street. Yes, I was super young… but my dad owned a video store and I am the youngest of 8 kids and… stuff like that happened then! We even drank out of the water hose!! But watching that movie allowed me to connect with my closest brother in age who is 2.5 years older than me and a couple of cousins. Everyone was scared. It wasn’t just me. And this vulnerability and connection forged a bond between us and opened my own psyche up to thinking of ways to connect with people at an early age.
As an adult, I still live for slasher movies. I love them so much that I even started reading slasher BOOKS - growing up I never even knew such a book existed! And while there is not a slasher movie I won’t watch, they definitely don’t mean as much to me personally like they used to. I see them mostly as nostalgic comfort and a way to have a great time. So I started expanding my horizons in the horror cinematic universe. I want to watch horror that challenges me and is also outside of my comfort zone. And would you believe that I found so many cool movies out there?!
While many of us in the world are still practicing social distance measures and trying to figure out ways to enhance virtual movie parties, I want to share some movies I recently watched that I have absolutely loved! None of these movies are considered slasher horror, but all of these movies have registered permanently with me.

- 3 oz vodka
- 1 oz dry vermouth
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 3 eaches olives (I prefer blue cheese stuffed)
- Optional: add as much olive juice as desired to make it dirty!
