These are my favorite, highly recommended reads that are currently in my 2019 Goodreads Challenge. There are 64 books on that list and of the 64, these ones are stellar 5 star reads. I figured it was a good time to round them up since we're at a halfway mark in the year. Not all of these were released in 2019, I just read them this year. And some books that will be released in 2019, I actually read LAST year, so they're not on here--like Paul Tremblay's GROWING THINGS. So here they are in all their glory:
Book One: THE FEARING, FIRE & RAIN by John F. D. Taff is the start of an epic apocolyptic horror and I cannot wait for Book Two!
WESTLAKE SOUL by Rio Youers is cemented in my top 10 books of all time now.
Both of these books, KNOCK, KNOCK and THE WORST IS YET TO COME have bumped S. P. Miskowski into favorite author status. Insta-buy everything.
WAITING OUT WINTER by Kelli Owen is book one in a series that I'm excited to read more of and SUSPENDED IN DUSK II edited by Simon Dewar, is one of the best horror anthologies I've ever read.
THE VISIBLE FILTH by Nathan Ballingrud in the WOUNDS collection. I can't wait to read the rest of the collection!
A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS by Robert Ford and Matt Hayward is such a fun & entertaining read. Horror with heart and humor.
NOBODY GETS HURT by Nicholas Day is an amazingly diverse collection of stories. His new book, GRIND YOUR BONES TO DUST is going to blow minds.
I have recommended this book a billion times this year. I love THE BONE WEAVER'S ORCHARD by Sarah Read. It's everything I love about books.
RED by Jack Ketchum. I loved this book so hard. I just bought some more Ketchum too and I'm sooooo excited.
IN THE VALLEY OF THE SUN by Andy Davidson is powerful horror storytelling. Davidson has chops. I can't wait for more.
COME CLOSER by Sara Gran is psychological horror on par with I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS by Iain Reid and BEHIND HER EYES by Sarah Pinborough. I loved it.
THE SAME DEEP WATER AS YOU is another deep dive into the human experience told through intimate, engaging storytelling by Chad Lutzke
GHOUL by Brian Keene was my first ever Brian Keene book and I'm excited he has so many other books to read & collect. One of my favorite coming-of-age horror books ever.
ON THIS, THE DAY OF THE PIG by Josh Malerman was a fun, terrifying book about a creepy-ass pig with dangerous powers of mind control.
THE NIGHTMARE GIRL by Jonathan Janz was a feverish binge read. I could NOT put this one down.
CHIRAL M4D has some of my favorite short stories in it--including one by Bracken MacLeod and Paul Michael Anderson that I love. Also some great illustrated stories.
VULTURES by Chuck Wendig is the last book in the Miriam Black series. It did not disappoint. Poignent, Beautiful and everything fans would want in a final book.
This is a powerful, compelling read and I feel like everyone should own and read it. It's original and captivating. COTOTE SONGS by Gabino Iglesias is haunting. It lingers.
